2.7. Diagnostics of malfunctions of manual transmission

Transmission and transfer case

Difficulties at gear shifting take place

Coupling is squeezed not up to the end out. See the Section devoted to diagnostics of malfunctions of coupling.

In the transmission gearbox oil not of that grade. Replace oil on conforming to technical requirements (see size tables and adjustments at the end of the Management).

The gear shifting mechanism is worn-out. On models of 4.2 l dismantle the top cover and replace defective components. On models of 3.0 l investigate assembly of transmission for repair performance.

The synchronization mechanism is faulty. Execute capital repairs of transmission. Check a condition of frictional surfaces of the blocking rings and cones for existence of signs of wear and damages (see an accompanying illustration).

Inclusion of the all-wheel drive mode is complicated

Components of the switch of the transfer case are worn-out, or their landing weakened. Tighten fixture or replace faulty components.

Components of the synchronizer of the all-wheel drive mode are worn-out. Execute capital repairs of the transfer case.

Teeth of an asterisk of the synchronizer of the all-wheel drive mode are worn-out or damaged.

Difficulties at inclusion of the all-wheel drive mode can be also connected with distinction at a rate of tires of forward and back wheels of the car. Track correctness of selection of wheels.
If problems with switching to the all-wheel drive mode arise only in a cold state, reduce speed up to a full stop.

Driveshafts

Vibration of the driveshaft takes place

Nuts and/or bolts of fastening of the driveshaft weakened. Replace fixture, having tightened it with the required effort.

Cardan hinges are worn-out. Check, in case of need make replacement.

The driveshaft is bent. Check a shaft beating by means of the dial measuring instrument of plunger type, compare result of measurement to admissible values (see size tables and adjustments at the end of the Management).

Balancing of the driveshaft is broken. Check existence on a shaft of balance weights. In case of need execute balancing of a shaft.

There was a mutual rassovmeshcheniye of forward and back cardan hinges of a shaft. Disconnect the sliding joint from a shaft and level hinges.

Vents of the sliding driveshaft joint are worn-out. Replace a shaft assembled.

By means of manual manipulations check cardan hinges and the sliding joints for existence of signs of wear (see an accompanying illustration).
If the excessive beating of the driveshaft takes place, give fixture and turn a shaft half way. Again tighten fixture and repeat check of a beating. In case of need replace a shaft.

The excessive radial side play of the driveshaft takes place

Bolts/nuts of fastening of the driveshaft weakened. Replace fixture, having tightened it with the required effort. Surely track reliability of tightening of fixture (see an accompanying illustration).

Cardan hinges are worn-out. Check degree of wear of hinges, manipulating them manually. In case of need make replacement.

Vents of the sliding driveshaft joint are worn-out. Check (by manual manipulations), in case of need replace a shaft assembled.

The radial side play of the koronchaty (conducted) gear wheel of the main transfer is excessive. Remove assembly of the main transfer, execute adjustment of the conducted gear wheel.
