5. Cooling systems, heating and air conditioning
General information
The cooling system of the engine works at the thermosiphon principle with the water pump and the fan. Systems is tight and works with excessive pressure that lifts a boiling point of cooling liquid, increasing thereby efficiency of cooling. The cover of a radiator is equipped with the control valve which is not allowing an excessive deviation of internal pressure in system from atmospheric (in both parties).
Cooling liquid at thermal expansion is forced out from a radiator via the valve in a broad tank and when cooling the engine after its stop comes back to a radiator again. Control of temperature of cooling liquid is exercised by the thermostat of voskozapolnenny type. The thermostat is located in the casing fixed on the engine block (on models of 3.0 l) or on the inlet pipeline (on models of 4.2 l). For the purpose of prevention of development of corrosion the cooling system has to refuel surely water mix with the antifreeze containing anticorrosive additives.
The drive of the water pump is carried out by a V-shaped belt (the general with the generator) from a pulley of a bent shaft.
The thermostatic clutch coupling of the fan is filled with silicone liquid which viscosity considerably changes with a temperature that allows to correct automatically the speed of rotation of the fan depending on turns of the engine and intensity of an air stream through a radiator. At the same time losses of engine capacity and intensity of a noise background decrease at the movement with high speeds
The bimetallic spring in a forward part of a clutch coupling operates the valve controlling extent of pro-slipping of the fan.
On cars with AT tanks of cooling of gearbox oil are built in a radiator.
