5.4. Replacement of spherical caps (release traffic jams)

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. For the purpose of cooling of the engine the set of the water channels equipped with technological openings is provided in casting of the block to a head of cylinders.
  1. These openings are muffled by special release traffic jams (spherical caps) which are subject to replacement at each cleaning of water shirts of the engine, and also in case of detection of the defects caused by impact of corrosion. On an accompanying illustration the release traffic jams located on the right wall of the engine of 4.2 l are shown.

At detection of defects even of one release stopper it will be correct to replace everything them them.

  1. Empty the cooling system.
  2. Remove the components/units installed in a motive compartment of the car and limiting access to the release traffic jams which are subject to replacement.
  3. By means of the hammer and a center punch begin to knock external edges of a stopper from one of its parties in an opening.
  4. Grasp with nippers the opposite edge of a stopper which is turned out outside and take it from the opening.
  5. Carefully clean and dry an opening under installation of a release stopper.
  6. Slightly grease the outer edge of a new stopper and a wall of a landing opening with connecting sealant like Stag.
  7. Apply a stopper to an opening and by means of a piece of a pipe or a replaceable face head of suitable diameter (equal to the outer diameter of a stopper) bury a stopper perpendicularly in an opening.

The slightest distortion of a stopper in an opening can lead to development of leak of cooling liquid.

  1. Install the components removed for ensuring access.
  2. Fill the cooling system. At a navernuty cover of a radiator start the engine, warm up it up to the normal working temperature and check for leak of cooling liquid.
