5.3. Removal and installation of the water pump

Removal

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Empty the cooling system.
  2. Disconnect a negative wire from the battery.
  3. Remove the top hose of a radiator.
  4. Give screws of fastening of the top casing of a radiator, release clamps (having squeezed them) fastenings of the top casing to lower and take the top casing from a motive compartment of the car.
  5. Weaken an adjusting bolt of the generator and take off a driving belt (belts) from a pulley of the water pump.
  6. Give nuts of fastening of a clutch coupling of the fan and a pulley to a flange of the water pump, remove washers.
  7. Separate the fan, assembly of its coupling and a pulley from the water pump and remove components from the car.
  8. On models of 3.0 l:
    1. Take off a gas-distributing belt;
    2. Give bolts of fastening of the water pump, remembering length and location of each of them.
  9. On models of 4.2 l give bolts of fastening of the water pump to a cover of a gas-distributing chain and remove the pump from a cover (components of the water pump of models of 4.2 l are shown on an accompanying illustration).

  1. Check the case and a rotor of the pump for existence of traces of corrosion, cracks and other defects.
  2. Check a bearing side play in a pump housing, estimate the level of the noise published by the bearing at rotation of the pump.
  3. Check conditions of assembly of coupling, turning it manually. Rotation has to happen without breakthroughs and points of jamming, to easy resistance. The knot is not maintainable and in a case failure is subject to replacement.

In view of features of a design of the water pump its repair is represented inexpedient. Authors of this manual recommend to make in case of refusal replacement of the pump assembled.

Installation

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Installation is made upside-down.
  2. Make sure of purity of the interfaced surfaces of the water pump and engine, - on them there should be no traces of old sealant.
  3. Impose a pillow of sealant with a section of Ø of 2 ÷ of 3 mm on the interfaced surface of the pump. Track that sealants it was imposed from the inside of bolted openings.
  1. On models of 3.0 l:
    1. Install the pump on the block of cylinders and tighten bolts of its fastening in an order and with effort, shown on an accompanying illustration where: And = 16 ÷ 21 Nanometers, In = 7 ÷ 8 Nanometers, With = 30 ÷ 40 Nanometers.
    2. Establish into place a gas-distributing belt.
  1. On models of 4.2 l install the water pump on a cover of a gas-distributing chain and tighten bolts of its fastening with the required effort (see size tables and adjustments at the end of the Management).
  2. Install a driving pulley, assembly of coupling and the fan on the pump. Tighten fixing nuts with the required effort.
  3. Establish a driving belt (belts) and adjust effort of its tension.
  4. Establish the top casing of a radiator and strongly tighten screws of its fastening.
  5. Connect a negative wire to the battery.
  6. Establish into place the top hose of a radiator and fill in in system necessary amount of cooling liquid of the required grade (see size tables and adjustments at the end of the Management).
  7. Start the engine and check it for existence of leaks.
