- Empty the cooling system.
- Disconnect a negative wire from the battery.
- Remove the top hose of a radiator.
- Give screws of fastening of the top casing of a radiator, release clamps (having squeezed them) fastenings of the top casing to lower and take the top casing from a motive compartment of the car.
- Weaken an adjusting bolt of the generator and take off a driving belt (belts) from a pulley of the water pump.
- Give nuts of fastening of a clutch coupling of the fan and a pulley to a flange of the water pump, remove washers.
- Separate the fan, assembly of its coupling and a pulley from the water pump and remove components from the car.
- On models of 3.0 l:
- Take off a gas-distributing belt;
- Give bolts of fastening of the water pump, remembering length and location of each of them.
- On models of 4.2 l give bolts of fastening of the water pump to a cover of a gas-distributing chain and remove the pump from a cover (components of the water pump of models of 4.2 l are shown on an accompanying illustration).
- Check the case and a rotor of the pump for existence of traces of corrosion, cracks and other defects.
- Check a bearing side play in a pump housing, estimate the level of the noise published by the bearing at rotation of the pump.
- Check conditions of assembly of coupling, turning it manually. Rotation has to happen without breakthroughs and points of jamming, to easy resistance. The knot is not maintainable and in a case failure is subject to replacement.

In view of features of a design of the water pump its repair is represented inexpedient. Authors of this manual recommend to make in case of refusal replacement of the pump assembled. |
