2.5. Diagnostics of malfunctions of a power supply system

The engine is not started

Fuel level in the float-operated camera is insufficient. Check giving of the fuel pump. Also check the needle valve for passability and existence of signs of jamming.

Candles of the cold engine are filled in with fuel owing to excessively hard work by the accelerator pedal during start. You hold a pedal released and repeat the starting procedure before start of the engine.

Candles of the hot engine are filled in at excessively active use of the accelerator pedal. You hold a pedal released so far the engine it will not be started. Make sure that the air gate of automatic equipment of start is completely open.

On the models equipped with an observation port on the float-operated camera of the carburetor visually check fuel level in the camera.
On models without observation port shake the drive lever a butterfly valve, watching injection of fuel in primary camera of the carburetor.
Check whether there are no violations of supply of fuel by a detachment of the giving fuel pipe from the carburetor and a provorachivaniye after this engine. Points a strong smell of gasoline and existence of traces of leak of fuel on axes of butterfly valves to the gulf of the engine.

The engine becomes deaf during the work on single turns

Installation of turns and/or qualities of mix of idling is broken. Check, in case of need modify installations by adjusting screws.

The block of starting automatic equipment is faulty. Check functioning of the air gate and adjustment of turns of bystry idling.

The float-operated camera of the carburetor is filled in. If there is such opportunity, check fuel level in the camera through an observation port. Clean and blow the carburetor.

Passability of a jet of idling or air jet is broken. Clean and blow the carburetor.

Bolts of fastening of the carburetor to the inlet pipeline weakened. Tighten bolts check whether there is no air leak.

Leaks through laying of a flange of the carburetor or inlet pipeline take place. Check, replace defective laying. Leaks through laying of the inlet pipeline can be revealed by wetting of the suspected site of a joint by motive oil (see an accompanying illustration).

The electromagnetic valve of interruption in supply of fuel is faulty. Check functioning of the valve, make necessary repair or replacement.

Supply of fuel in the carburetor is insufficient. Check serviceability of intake of fuel via the needle valve. Clean and blow the carburetor. Check passability of fuel pipes and the fuel filter, and also serviceability of functioning of the fuel pump.

Acceleration performance of the car is reduced

It is faulty, or the accelerating pump is blocked. Clean and blow the carburetor, replace defective components.

Driving draft of the accelerating pump is faulty. Check, make necessary repair.

The start automatic equipment block is faulty. Check functioning of the air gate.

For check of a contour of the accelerating pump remove the air cleaner and, holding the air gate in open situation, manually move the lever of the drive of a butterfly valve. Through a mouth of the carburetor streams of the fuel injected into it have to be visible.

Admissions of ignition take place

Before carrying out the checks described below and corrections, make diagnostics of electric equipment.

Fuel level fell in the float-operated camera of the carburetor, or supply of fuel in the carburetor is broken. Check the level, serviceability of the fuel pump and passability of fuel pipes and the fuel filter.

There was an obstruction of the main thing or jet of high power. Disassemble the carburetor, blow jets.

The fuel pump is faulty. Replace.

Water got to the carburetor. Dry and clean a power supply system, replace the fuel filter.

The air podsasyvaniye between the fuel pump and a tank takes place. Eliminate leaks.

Check pressure of giving (pressure) and an expense of the fuel pump as it is described in appropriate section.
For verification of moisture in the carburetor remove the top cover. Procedures of removal of dismantling of the carburetor are in detail described in the Head of the Power supply system and production of the fulfilled gases.

Fuel consumption is excessive

Fuel level in the float-operated camera is excessively high. Check, make adjustment.

The filtering air cleaner element is polluted. Make replacement.

The air gate is partially closed. Check, make necessary corrections.

The pressure of the fuel pump is excessively high. Replace the pump.

Leaks from the fuel tank, fuel pipes or via the filter take place. Check, make necessary replacements.

Jets are worn-out or damaged. Check, replace defective components.

Load of the accelerating pump is excessively big. Change a driving manner.

In most cases excessive fuel consumption is connected with violation of passability of the filtering element of the air cleaner which acts easily and checked visually. Also it is necessary to check installations and serviceability of functioning of automatic equipment of start.

Systems of injection of fuel and engine management
(models of 4.2 l of late years of release)

The checks given below belong on category only to basic. Besides it is necessary to start their performance only after results of the procedures listed in Sections of the causes of failure of start of the engine devoted to diagnostics in road conditions allow to claim firmly that the problem is connected with violations of functioning of systems of injection of fuel and engine management.
If performance of the checks described below does not yield positive result, it is necessary to ask for the help specialists of dealer office of the manufacturing company of the car, having special and very expensive diagnostic equipment at the order.

In order to avoid getting injured, connected by receiving a strong electroshock, at implementation of repair and diagnostic procedures on components of electronic system of ignition and near them it is necessary to observe extra care. Remember that at a secondary contour of system there is a high voltage hazardous to health

The engine is not started, or started with great difficulty
The system of ignition is faulty. Check an external condition of contact plugs of the distributor, coil of ignition and a powerful key of the output cascade. Plugs have to be pure, free from products of corrosion and are reliably fixed. Check a condition of spark plugs and installation of interelectrode gaps. Check a cover and the runner of the distributor for existence of cracks, coal paths of the burned plugs (see an accompanying illustration). Check a condition of the VV plugs of wires, measure their resistive resistance. Check a condition of the coil of ignition and a powerful key of the output cascade.

Fuel supply is broken. Check the fuel pump, the relay of the fuel pump and pressure of fuel.

Injectors are faulty. Check an electric contour of injectors. Check a condition of fusible inserts.

The relay of management (ECCS relay) is faulty. Check the relay, in case of need replace.

Electric sockets of components of a control system of the engine are faulty. Check a condition of all electric sockets, smooth out plugs, track reliability of connections.

The engine is started, then becomes deaf

Installation of turns of idling or corner of an advancing of ignition is broken. Check, execute necessary adjustments.

Fuel supply is broken. Check an electric contour of the fuel pump and pressure of fuel.

The system of ignition is faulty. Check a condition of spark plugs and correctness of installation of an interelectrode gap. Check a cover and the runner of the distributor for existence of cracks and coal paths. Check a condition of the VV plugs of wires, measure their resistive resistance. Check a condition of all other terminal connections of system of ignition.

Leak of air or loss of depression take place. Check a state and reliability of fastening on unions of the corresponding hoses.

The electrical wiring of components of a control system of fuel is faulty. Check a state and reliability of fastening of all terminal connections.

Admissions of ignition in the engine take place

Spark plugs are faulty or polluted, or the interelectrode gap is incorrectly exposed.

The distributor cover is faulty. Check a cover for existence of cracks and presence of moisture.

Wire VV are faulty. Check, execute necessary replacements.

The ignition coil is faulty. Check, in case of need make replacement.

Fuel supply is broken. Check fuel pressure. Check the fuel filter, lines and injectors for passability violation.

Moisture got to fuel. Merge fuel, replace the fuel filter.

Fuel injectors are faulty. Check a condition of electric sockets and an electric chain of injectors.

The engine does not develop full capacity

The filtering element of the air cleaner is hammered or passability of an airintaking path is broken. Replace an element (see an accompanying illustration), or remove the cause of blocking.

Adjustment of a cable of the drive of a butterfly valve is broken. Execute necessary adjustment, make sure of completeness of opening of the gate.

Installation of a corner of an advancing of ignition is broken. Check, modify.

Fuel supply is broken. Check fuel pressure. Check passability of the fuel filter, lines and injectors. Make sure that vacuum hoses of the regulator of pressure of fuel are connected and are in good repair.

Passability of system of production of the fulfilled gases is broken. Check a condition of system, remove the cause of blocking.

Fuel consumption is excessive

The filtering element of the air cleaner is hammered or passability of an airintaking path is broken. Replace an element, or remove the cause of blocking.

Fuel pressure does not meet standard. Measure pressure. Check passability of the line of return of fuel.

External leaks in a fuel supply system take place. Check nipple connections and components of a power supply system for existence of signs of leaks.

Internal leaks in a fuel supply system take place. Check injectors for existence of signs of leaks.

Passability of system of production of the fulfilled gases is broken. Check a condition of system, remove the cause of blocking.
