12.7.7. Removal and installation of the steering pump

Full check of a state and capital repairs of the steering pump belong to the procedures which are beyond qualification of the average amateur mechanic. The remnabor cost, plus time expenditure usually outweigh the cost of the replaceable block which was in the use. In view of the aforesaid authors of this manual just recommend in case of refusal to replace the pump it. For those who decided to try the hand in performance of repair of the steering pump authors give an explanatory illustration and the list of the main technical requirements (see size tables and adjustments at the end of the Management).

Removal

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Disconnect a negative wire from the battery.
  2. Clear the pump outside, having removed from it traces of dirt and lubricant, in order to avoid their hit in hydraulic system in the course of dismantle of the pump.
  3. Weaken a fastening collar to the pump of the returnable line (appearance of the steering pump is shown on an accompanying illustration). For collecting the spilled liquid you keep drain capacity under the union.

  1. Give a hollow bolt of the nipple socket of fastening of the pressure head line and continue discharge of liquid in capacity. Fix the disconnected lines away from a working zone, having corked their open ends for prevention of hit in system of dirt.
  2. Give an adjusting lock-nut, weaken fixing and adjusting bolts. Take off a driving belt from the pump.
  3. Turn out adjusting and fixing bolts of the pump and remove assembly of the last from the car.

Installation

Installation is made upside-down.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Replace copper sealing washers and strongly tighten a hollow bolt of the nipple socket.
  2. Adjust effort of a tension of a driving belt.
  3. Pump over hydraulic system.
