12.7.4. Service of a steering column
Removal and installation
Removal
|
|
- Disconnect a negative wire from the battery.
- Mark with quick-drying paint the provision of a steering shaft in relation to the flexible coupling. Give the top coupling bolt of the coupling.
- Remove a steering wheel.
- On models with an adjustable inclination of a column lower it in the lower situation.
- Give screws of fastening of casings of a column. Remove casings aside, having removed them from the combined understeering switch and the lock of ignition.

On models with a column of usual type it is necessary to give bolts of fastening of the top part of a column to the dashboard, then the column should be lowered slightly for removal of the top casing. |
- Disconnect an electrical wiring from the lock of ignition and the combined understeering switch and the lock of ignition (from their back party).
- Give the lower nuts of fastening of a cover of an opening which the lower part of a column fastens to a partition of a motive compartment.
- Remove a steering column from the car.

Installation
Installation is made upside-down.
|
|
- Achieve combination of the tags of provision of a steering shaft put in the course of dismantle in relation to the flexible coupling and track that the coupling bolt of the coupling got to a reciprocal groove on the helmsman to a shaft. Tighten a coupling bolt - at this stage only by hand.
- Establish bolts of the top arm / arm of an inclination of a steering column and screw opening cover nuts. Make sure that the steering column is established without internal tension. Tighten nuts with effort of 9 ÷ 14 Nanometers, and arm bolts with effort of 13 ÷ 18 Nanometers.
- Tighten a coupling bolt of the flexible coupling with effort of 39 ÷ 49 Nanometers.
- Poddomkratte a car front also make sure that the steering wheel freely rotates from an emphasis against the stop in both directions without breakthroughs and points of jamming.

Dismantling
|
|
- Remove a steering column.
- Weaken screws of a fixing collar, wring out down and turn the combined understeering switch. Remove the switch from a steering column.
- Remove a plastic bandage, give bolts of fastening of an arm of a cover of an opening, remove washers and remove an opening cover arm from a steering column.
- By means of special flat-nose pliers remove a lock ring and washers from the top part of a steering shaft. Take a shaft from a column.
- On models with adjustment of an inclination of a column (see an accompanying illustration) weaken a bolt of an arm of an inclination and a special nut. Remove an inclination arm from a column. Put arm components as their removal.
- In case of need remove the ignition lock (see an accompanying illustration), having used a center punch and the hammer for an otdavaniye of fixing bolts of srezny type.

Cleaning and check of a condition of components
|
|
- By means of solvent remove lubricant traces from metal components.
|
|
Do not wash out in solvent of assembly of the lock of ignition and the combined understeering switch, and also any bearings of tight type - it is fraught with an irreversible exit of the listed components out of operation. |
- Check a steering shaft for existence of signs of wear, deformations and other damages. Pay special attention to a condition of the universal (cardan) hinge and the sites equipped with vents.
- Check a condition of lock rings and spring clips. Replace the worn-out, damaged and stretched components.
- Check freedom of rotation of the lower bearing.
- On a column of the inclined type check components of the mechanism of adjustment of an inclination for existence of signs of wear and damages.
- Check a cover plate for existence of signs of wear, deformation and other damages.
- Replace all revealed defective components.

Assembly
Components of a steering column
Assembly is made as it should be, the return to a dismantle order.
|
|
- Before assembly grease with universal lubricant the top and lower bearings of a steering shaft, and also all moving components of the mechanism of adjustment of an inclination of provision of a column (if that is provided).
- Track that the top lock ring of a steering shaft located under the top bearing was to turn the rounded party е to the bearing.
- At installation of an arm of a cover of an opening track correctness of placement of washers. Tighten axial bolts with effort of 16 ÷ 21 Nanometers.
- On models with a column of the inclined type tighten an inclination arm bolt so that the column smoothly moved at a control lever otpuskaniye an inclination and at the same time remained motionless when blocking the lever.
- Install a column on the car.
