12.7.1. Primary checks

|
At full or partial failure of the system of hydrostrengthening of a wheel it is important to make the listed below checks immediately. Only on the basis of the received results it is possible to start recovery repair. |
Check of a condition of a driving belt of the steering pump
|
|
- Attentively examine a belt on existence of cracks, zapolirovanny to gloss of sites and other damages. In case of need replace a belt. As replaceable it is necessary to use only a branded belt.
- If there was only an easing of effort of a tension still of a belt, suitable for further application, make necessary adjustment.

|
|
|
Usually the first sign of weakening of a tension of a driving belt is emergence during performance of turns or at acceleration of the engine of the squeal connected with increase in load of the steering pump. |
Check of level of hydraulic liquid
|
|
|
- Check liquid level in the tank of system of hydrostrengthening of a wheel (see an accompanying illustration). If check is made right after operation of the car, use the range of NOTES on an edge of the measuring probe. Respectively, at the cold engine use COLD range.
|
- In case of need add the required amount of liquid, having brought its level to the corresponding tag on the probe. Use only liquid of the required grade (see size tables and adjustments at the end of the Management).

|
|
It is not necessary to exceed the nominal level of liquid in the tank. |
Check of hydraulic system on existence of leak of liquid
|
|
- By means of suitable solvent clear surfaces of all suspects of quality of a source of leakage of knots, lines and nipple connections of hydraulic system. Start the engine and several times turn a steering wheel from an emphasis against the stop, then again kill the engine. Examine system components on existence of traces of leaks. In case of need tighten the weakened nipple connections and repeat check.

Do not tighten nipple nuts with excessive effort. |
- If pulling up of nipple connections did not lead to correction of a situation, address the Section the Elementary checks and adjustments and disconnect defective lines.
- If the source of leak is located around assembly of the steering pump and the tank of hydraulic liquid, intervention of the expert is required.

Check of effort of turning of a steering wheel
|
|
Necessary condition of conducting this check is the correct adjustment of pressure of a rating of tires and the angles of installation of forward wheels. The car has to be parked on the flat platform with a dry asphalt or concrete covering. |
|
|
- Start the engine and cock the parking brake.
- Having warmed up the engine on single turns up to the normal working temperature, several times turn a steering wheel from an emphasis against the stop for the purpose of warming up of hydraulic liquid of system of strengthening of a wheel.
|
|
- Pick up to a steering wheel a steelyard (see an accompanying illustration) and measure the effort necessary for turn of a wheel at least on one turn in both directions from rectilinear situation. Compare result of measurements to standard requirements (see size tables and adjustments at the end of the Management).
