9.2. Automatic transmission
General information
The cars described in this manual are equipped with 4-staged automatic transmission of RE4R03A with electronic control and the rotation converter which is blocked at inclusion of the raising fourth transfer.
The design of transmission of models of late years of release (since 1992) with engines of 4.2 l of EFI differs only in insignificant modification of some internal components and big dimensions of the converter of rotation.
The choice of the raising transfer on models of late years of release is carried out by means of the press button which is built in in the selector lever handle. At the pressed button transmission with increase in speed of the movement is transferred to the raising fourth transfer. When the button is released, inclusion of the fourth transfer is blocked. Such mode is useful in need of braking by the engine, or to prevention of frequent switching from the third transfer to the fourth, for example at the movement in the conditions of an intense city cycle.
The electronic control system consists of an electronic control unit (ECU), functioning together with the sensor of provision of a butterfly valve (TPS), the sensor switch of a butterfly valve, the engine RPM meter, the RPM meter, the sensor of speed of the movement, the sensor of temperature of gearbox oil, the switch of the power modes, the mode sensor switch kik-Down and the sensor switch of permission of start.
At refusal any of sensors / датчиков-выключателей, ECU includes emergency operation of functioning of AT in which the car can be driven away in the closest workshop of dealer office of the company manufacturer for performance of professional repair. At low temperatures of AT the sensor of temperature of gearbox oil does not allow inclusion of the raising transfer and blocking of the converter of rotation.
The switch of the power modes operates order of switching of transmission. At installation of the switch in position of AUTO transmission with increase in speed of the movement of the car switches to the fourth transfer that allows to reduce fuel consumption. Nevertheless, at sharp acceleration the control lamp of switching of the power mode can light up that speaks about change of the mode of switching of transmission for the purpose of increase in efficiency of return of the engine. When the switch is in situation POWER, switching of transmission to the fourth transfer does not happen that provides the maximum return when braking with the engine, for example during abrupt descent.
The switch of the modes on models of late years of release is installed in the central part of the dashboard and allows to make switching between three modes: AUTO, POWER and HOLD. The POWER mode is used at sharp acceleration or during the steep slope. Position of AUTO corresponds to the normal mode of economical fuel consumption. Installation of the HOLD mode allows to hold transmission on the transfer chosen as the selector lever (I, II, III or OVERDRIVE (raising)).
Hydraulic transmission liquid circulates via the oil cooler located in a radiator. The oil cooler is connected to transmission by means of tubes. Level of transmission liquid is controlled by means of the measuring probe located in the right part of a motive compartment.
Transmission is removed from the car assembled after preliminary removal of the transfer case.

As for detailed diagnostics and capital repairs of AT high qualification of personnel and the special equipment are required, authors of this manual recommend at emergence of problems, besides listed in the Section devoted to diagnostics of malfunctions of the car to address in a workshop of dealer office of the company manufacturer. |
Procedures of removal and installation of transmission in collecting (for example for the purpose of delivery in a workshop for repair or replacement) are described in the present Chapter.
