8.2.1. Service of the rechargeable battery

Service of the rechargeable battery has to be made according to the schedule of routine maintenance of the car. |

The areometer and the charger will be necessary for implementation of the procedures described below |
Removal and installation
Removal
|
- Disconnect negative and positive wires from the battery.
- Remove a clamping level and take the battery from a motive compartment of the car.
|
|
Installation
Installation is made upside-down.
|
- Check a condition of plugs of the battery.
- At connection of wires you monitor respect for polarity. The first connect and fix a positive wire.
- Do not tighten a nut of terminal clips too hardly.
- In order to avoid development of corrosion grease plugs and tips of wires with acid-free vaseline.

Care of the battery
|
Electrolyte of the battery emits extremely explosive hydrogen, - at all do not approach the battery with naked flame! |
|
- You watch purity of the battery and the surfaces surrounding it. Do not allow hit on the top part of the battery of dirt and moisture. In case of need carry out external cleaning of the battery:
- Remove the battery from the car;
- Carefully pour over the battery hot water, watching that it did not get inside through air vents of jellied covers;
- Carefully wipe the battery case.

- Smooth out plugs of the battery and terminal clips by means of a wire brush, an emery paper, or special adaptation (see an accompanying illustration). Remove all traces of dirt and corrosion.

- Remove jellied covers and make sure of passability of air vents.
- Check electrolyte level in banks of the battery, in case of need add the distilled water. Electrolyte has to hide plates completely. Do not overflow the battery, do not pour electrolyte from one banks in another.
- If often there is a need for water addition, check the battery case for existence of signs of leaks. At detection of cracks replace the battery.
- Whether by measurement of output parameters of the generator check not too battery charge level is high.
- In order to avoid development of corrosion grease plugs with acid-free vaseline.
- If as a result of an electrolyte modulation it got on the pallet of the battery and surrounding body panels, act as follows:
- Process the polluted surfaces soda bicarbonate;
- Wash away soda hot water - you remember that it soda violently reacts with water, causing plentiful foaming;
- After the termination of foaming rinse surfaces with clear water and let's them dry out;
- Remove the blown-up paint from the processed surfaces;
- Cover surfaces with anticorrosive paint.

Check of a state and charging
|
- Measure by the areometer battery electrolyte density (act according to the instructions attached to the device). Compare results of measurements to standard data:

Data are provided for electrolyte temperature 20 °C. On each 10 °C over 20 °C it is necessary to add to the specified values 0.007. On each 10 °C of decrease in temperature concerning 20 °C - to take away 0.007.

It is impossible to read the correct instrument of density of electrolyte if recently the distilled water was added to banks. If an urovenyelektrolita fell below the upper edge of plates, add in the water battery, then before measuring the specific weight of electrolyte, recharge the battery. |
- If the level of a charge of the battery is insufficient, it is necessary to make charging with use of one of the charger types which are available on sale:
- Disconnect from the battery negative and positive wires (in that order);.
- Check electrolyte level in banks, in case of need add the distilled water;
- Remove jellied covers from the battery;
- Further act according to instructions of manufacturers of the charger.
- If after charging the battery does not provide due overall performance, it should be sent for check under loading with use of the special equipment to the next workshop on repair of automobile electric equipment. Check under loading in combination with measurement of specific weight will allow to estimate operability of the battery adequately.
