8.1. System of ignition
General information
The cars of the Patrol/Maverick series described in this manual are equipped with one of two types of systems of ignition. On model with the engine of 4.2 l the system of ignition with the distributor of usual type with the breaker of contacts whereas on models of 3.0 l the electronic distributor is used is installed. Both distributors are put in action from the camshaft by means of a kosozuby cylindrical gear wheel and are equipped vacuum and centrifugal by proofreaders of an advancing of ignition. Models of 3.0 l are in addition equipped with the thermal vacuum valve (TVV) of management of work of the vacuum proofreader. The valve prevents giving of depression on the proofreader of the distributor until the engine does not get warm up to the set temperature.
In the distributor from models of 4.2 l for interruption of giving of food on primary contour of the coil of ignition the mechanical breaker of contacts is used. In the electronic distributor instead of contacts of the breaker the sensor of the operating impulses is used, and control of primary current of the coil of ignition is exercised by the switchboard. At interruption of giving of food in a secondary winding of the coil the high-voltage tension which moves on spark plugs on VV to wires via the distributor runner is induced. On models of 4.2 l for additional increase in tension of ignition during start of the engine the ballast resistor is used.
Both types of distributors are equipped with the device of restriction of turns of the engine consisting of the runner and the special screen located under the runner. The runner is equipped with the sprung sliding electrode and an electrode of switching. On reaching turns of the engine of value 5000 ÷ 5400 in a minute centrifugal force pushes away the sliding electrode outside, bringing it into contact with a switching electrode. Current of ignition of cylinders 1, 3, 4 and 6 at the same time goes through an electrode of switching and a plate of the screen to VV to plugs of cylinders 2 and 5 that leads to decrease in turns of the engine.
