12.4.1. Service of half shafts

For replacement of the bearing will be required a tubular key on 58.2 mm and a press with basic plates.

Removal and installation

For lubricant of all it is necessary to use universal lubricant on a lithium basis if opposite is not stipulated especially in the description of the procedure.

Removal

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Car back also establish to Poddomkratta it on props. Remove a back wheel.
  2. On models with drum brake mechanisms of back wheels remove drum assembly from a half shaft and disconnect a brake tube from a back part of the wheel cylinder. Zakuporte a tube and the union of the cylinder in order to avoid hit in hydraulic system of dirt.
  3. On models with disk back brake mechanisms (see an accompanying illustration) give fixing bolts, remove a support from the chassis and tie up a wire it aside to a suspension bracket element.
1 — a nut of fastening of the bearing
2 — a support arm
3 — a bearing casing
4 — a half shaft
  1. Remove from a half shaft flange a brake disk, from a basic arm of a support - the dustproof screen.
  2. Give nuts of fastening of a casing of the bearing of a half shaft to a case of the back bridge and by means of the hammer with sliding brisk take assembly of a half shaft.

If the hammer with sliding brisk is not available, return a brake drum / disk on the place on a half shaft and freely screw wheel nuts, then use a drum/disk as the hammer sliding quickly (you do not knock at the same time on it the ordinary hammer).

  1. On models with drum brake mechanisms of back wheels remove adjusting washers and a boot from a bearing casing. You will throw out a boot.
  1. On models with disk back brakes (see an accompanying illustration) remove a sealing ring from a half shaft flange and you will throw out it.
  1. By means of the lever take an internal epiploon of a half shaft from a bridge case.

Installation

Installation is made upside-down.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Grease sponges of a new epiploon and establish an epiploon in a bridge case.
  2. On models with disk back brake mechanisms perform the following procedures:
    1. Grease a new sealing ring and establish it in a bridge case.
    2. Establish a half shaft, - try not to damage at the same time an internal epiploon. Tighten fixing nuts with effort of 53 ÷ 63 Nanometers.
    3. Establish a brake disk and a support and tighten fixing bolts with effort of 38 ÷ 52 Nanometers.
  3. On models with drum mechanisms:
    1. Establish a brake board on a case of the bridge and strongly fix a brake tube.
    2. Establish a new boot on a bearing casing, then insert one half shaft, trying not to damage at the same time an internal epiploon. Do not establish adjusting washers at this stage.
    3. Screw nuts of fastening of a half shaft and tighten them with effort of 53 ÷ 63 Nanometers.
    4. Establish a new boot and a set of adjusting washers with a total thickness of 1.6 mm on a casing of the bearing of an opposite half shaft. insert a half shaft, trying not to damage an internal epiploon.

Track that adjusting washers were not established between a boot and a casing of the bearing.

    1. Strongly tighten nuts of fastening of a half shaft against the stop of a bearing casing in a brake board. Otherwise the half shaft will be jammed.

If the half shaft begins to get jammed, do not tighten a nut further as it is fraught with damage of a casing of the bearing.

    1. Fix the dial measuring instrument on a brake board, a plunger to an end face of a flange of a half shaft and measure an axial side play of the last.
    2. Pick up adjusting washers of the required thickness and establish them, trying to obtain the size of an axial side play at 0:02 ÷ of 0.15 mm. Washers should not be established between a boot and a casing of the bearing.

The size of an axial side play increases with addition of adjusting washers and vice versa. The difference in thickness of sets of adjusting washers of the left and right half shafts should not exceed one millimeter. In case of need remove washers from one set and add them to another.

    1. Tighten nuts of fastening of a half shaft with effort of 53 ÷ 63 Nanometers and repeat the procedure of point (f).
    2. Install the brake drum and pump over hydraulic system.

Replacement of the bearing

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Remove a half shaft.
  2. Clamp a half shaft in a vice and unbend uvulas of a lock washer of a nut of fastening of the bearing.
  3. By means of a wrench on 58.2 mm give a nut of fastening of the bearing and you will throw out a lock washer.
  4. Establish a half shaft in a press, having propped up basic plates a bearing casing (on models with drum back brake mechanisms), or a basic arm of a support (on models with disk brakes of back wheels. Squeeze out a half shaft of a bearing casing.
  5. On models with drum brake mechanisms of back wheels (see an accompanying illustration) take an epiploon from a bearing casing and you will throw out it. Also remove a remote ring from a half shaft.
1 — adjusting washers
2 — a nut
3 — a boot
4 — the bearing
5 — a lock washer
6 — a casing
7 — a cup
8 — a remote ring
9 — an epiploon
10 — a half shaft
  1. On models with disk back brakes remove an internal holder of the external bearing of a half shaft, an epiploon and a remote ring from a half shaft. You will throw out an epiploon.
  2. By means of a brass drift take an external holder of the bearing from the bearing case.
  3. Examine a half shaft on existence of cracks, signs of wear and deformations. Special attention should be paid to a condition of shlits.
  4. Check also for existence of signs of wear, cracks and other damages a bearing casing.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

Installation of the bearing is made upside-down.

  1. By means of a brass drift put an external holder of the bearing in a casing against the stop in a coat hanger.
  2. Fill the bearing(s) and space between epiploon sponges high-temperature universal lubricant on a lithium basis. When greasing the bearing(s) carefully fill lubricant in gaps between rollers, an internal holder and a separator.
  3. On models with disk back brake mechanisms:
    1. Establish an internal holder of the external bearing in a casing, then by means of a suitable mandrel fill in a casing an epiploon against the stop in a coat hanger.
    2. Dress a remote ring and an arm of a support on a half shaft, then press a half shaft in bearings, having rested an external holder against a mandrel and watching to damaging an epiploon.
    3. Fill space between an epiploon and a remote ring high-temperature universal lubricant on a lithium basis.
  4. On models with drum back brake mechanisms dress a remote ring and a casing of the bearing on a half shaft, then by means of a brass drift or a piece of a tube put an internal holder on a half shaft.
  5. Establish a lock washer, grease a contact surface of a fixing nut and tighten a nut with effort of 441 ÷ 490 Nanometers. Bend one of uvulas of a lock washer.
  6. Holding a half shaft, turn assembly of a casing of the bearing three times, checking freedom of its rotation.
  7. Establish a half shaft in a bridge case.
