12.3.3. Removal and installation of a cross jet bar

Implementation of the procedures described below will require a press, suitable mandrels and pipes.

Removal

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. On models of early years of release give a nut of fastening of a damper of the steering drive to a cross jet bar, remove a washer. Disconnect a damper from a bar and remove it aside.
  2. On models of late years of release give a nut on the end of a steering damper turned to a cross jet bar, holding a damper rod from a provorachivaniye a wrench. Remove washers and rubber plugs and take a damper aside.

On some models the damper of the steering drive is fixed not on a cross jet bar, and on the car chassis. In this case procedures of the first two paragraphs should be lowered.

  1. Give a nut and a bolt of fastening of a cross jet bar to the forward bridge and the chassis. Remove a bar from the car.
  2. Check plugs of a cross jet bar for existence of signs of wear and damages. Replace defective plugs (see an accompanying illustration):
1 — a pipe
2 — a mandrel
3 — a cross jet bar
    1. Prop up a bar under the plug which is subject to replacement with a piece of a pipe of suitable diameter (the plug has to pass freely through a pipe).
    2. By means of the tool which mandrel will rest against an internal steel tube of the plug squeeze out the plug of a bar.

Plugs have various internal diameter therefore it is recommended to carry out their replacement serially.

    1. Moisten the external surface of the new plug with soap water and begin to push gradually the plug on the seat by means of a piece of a pipe which will rest against an external steel tube of the plug.
    2. Make sure of perpendicularity of landing of the plug and centrality of its arrangement.

Installation

Installation is made upside-down.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. If replacement of plugs is made, attentively check a condition of an axial hairpin and a bolt of a bar. Replace worn-out components.
  2. Install a cross jet bar on the car, install all fixture (nuts, bolts, washers, rubber plugs).
  3. Several times rock the car, then tighten a chassis nut with effort of 157 ÷ 167 Nanometers. A nut of the bridge tighten 127 ÷ 167 Nanometers with effort.
  4. In case of need strongly tighten a nut of fastening of a damper of the steering drive.
