7.5. System of catching of fuel evaporations (ECS)

Principle of action

The ECS system is used for decrease in hit in the atmosphere of hydrocarbonic connections from the fuel tank.

Principle of functioning of system

1 — the fuel tank
2 — the unilateral control fuel valve
3 — to TVV (only 3,0l)
4 — a butterfly valve
5 — the inlet pipeline
6 — a coal adsorber

The coal adsorber, the valve of management of a purge, hermetically executed fuel tank and, on models of 3.0 l, the thermal vacuum valve (TVV) are among the main components of system.

Location of the valve of management of a purge and a coal adsorber on models of 4.2 l

At the idle engine fuel evaporations gradually fill all gasoline tank space, free from fuel. As the tank is equipped with a tight cover, pressure of vapors rises and they are forced out in a coal adsorber where collect. The unilateral control valve prevents hit in an adsorber of liquid fuel.

At start of the engine a small amount of evaporations comes to the inlet pipeline through a throttle opening of a constant purge and is burned as a part of air-fuel mix. At increase in turns of the engine the main throttle opening of a purge of an adsorber out of which at the same time the bigger volume of the evaporations which accumulated during the parking is brought opens.

On models of 3.0 l for an overshoot of the main throttle opening of a purge at a low temperature of the engine the special thermal vacuum valve (TVV) is used.

Service

Service of system has to be made regularly, and special attention should be paid to the listed below moments.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Check passability and an external condition of all hoses of system.
  1. Check a condition of sealing laying of a cover of a mouth of the fuel tank (see an accompanying illustration). Make sure of serviceability of functioning of the safety valve of dumping of depression.
  1. Check functioning of a coal adsorber and the unilateral control valve.

Check of a coal adsorber

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Examine an adsorber on existence of signs of damages and traces of leaks. In case of need make replacement.
  2. Mark and disconnect hoses from an adsorber.
  3. Blow in the union of the top hose of management of a purge. Air should not pass.
  4. Blow in the union of the lower hose of a purge. Air has to pass freely.
  5. Blow in the union of an inlet hose. Air also has to be blown.
  6. In case of need replace an adsorber.

Check of the unilateral control valve

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Remove the valve from the fuel tank (see an accompanying illustration).
  1. Blow in the valve union turned to the fuel tank. Air should not pass.
  2. Blow in the valve union located from a coal adsorber. Pass of air has to be free.
  3. In case of need replace the valve.
